- The instrument needs to be able to measure affinities of biomolecular interactions accurately and precisely using minute quantities of materials without immobilization. The instrument should be able to perform protein sizing without extrinsic fluorophores. In practice, this means that it needs to be able to excite samples at wavelengths of 280, 480, and 640 nm and detect to ensuing fluorescence emission.

## Description

The instrument is intended as a screening platform for protein design and an instrument for protein characterization more broadly. To work in protein design context, it needs to work in a crudely purified (ideally unpurified) context and with minimal samples typically less than 1 g. This requires measurement at 640nm and built-in-in viscosity compensation. Additionally, it needs to work without extrinsic labelling requiring measurement at 280 nm. Measurement at 480 nm is required compatibility with a range of other instruments in our lab. The FIDA instrument is uniquely able to fulfill the above requirement and there are currently no other techniques combining all these features into a single instrument.
