Prior Information Notice concerning a call for tender for a contract on the design of a new Danish banknote series and a subsequent call for tender on a contract on the production hereof

As announced at the press conference 30 November 2023, Danmarks Nationalbank has decided to initiate the process towards developing a new Danish banknote series. The new series will consist of four denominations (50, 100, 200 and 500 krone), and is expected to be launched in 2028-2029. Danmarks Nationalbank will initiate two separate public tenders, separating design and production into two different agreements. Danmarks Nationalbank will by mid-March, 2024 initiate a restricted tender without negotiation for a contract on the design of the banknote series. The purpose of this first tender is to enter into contract with a security printing works, which has extended expertise and experience in designing and producing legal tender. Danmarks Nationalbank intends to include a requirement, where the banknotes shall feature security elements free from intellectual property rights regarding the design. Danmarks Nationalbank intends to hold any intellectual property rights to all design elements produced under the agreement. When the design of the whole banknote series has been approved, expected to be in January 2026, Danmarks Nationalbank will initiate a second tender for the production of the new banknote series. The purpose of this tender is to enter into contract with a security printing works, which must have demonstrated expertise and experience in handling origination work and printing of banknotes.
