- The critical specifications include: To ensure best possible counting statistics and speed of time-critical measurements, we require high intensity X-Ray radiation, e.g. from rotating anode or other source type surpassing the intensity of conventional X-Ray tubes. The possibility to change between different wavelengths. The instrument must be delivered with both Cu and Ag Kα sources, and the addition of more sources in the future must be possible. Changing wavelengths must be possible by a trained user, if not automated. Removable Kα1 monochromator for Cu radiation, and the possibility to add monochromators for other wavelengths in the future. Mirrors for divergent radiation (Bragg-Brentano), convergent radiation (Debye-Scherer), and parallel beam. Automated incidence slits to control beam foot print on the sample and divergence angle. Line focused incoming beam with the possibility to select several lengths up to 15 mm. Sample holders and environments for measurement of powders in reflection geometry (Bragg- Brentano), transmission through rotating capillaries (Debye-Scherer), and stage for mapping the surface of samples (in-plane movement and rotation around surface normal). Use of custom sample environments must be possible. Removable Soller slits to reduce peak broadening. State-of-the-art detector with high energy resolution and high surface area, to maximize the utilization of diffracted radiation. The energy resolution must be sufficient to suppress the effect of fluorescent radiation from Fe and Co when using Cu radiation without the use of filters or attenuation of diffracted radiation. The detector must have counting efficiency of 99% for Cu radiation and 20% for Ag radiation, or better. The software must allow automated sample alignment, automated data collection including surface mapping, perform search-match for collected data using common commercial structural databases.
