Study on Energy Efficiency improvements on Indonesian national ferries

The purpose of the study is to identify the best suited energy efficiency (EE) improvements for the Indonesian nationally owned ferries operating on the busy Merak-Bakauheni route. The Ministry of Transportation in Indonesia has appointed the State-Owned Enterprise PT ASDP as partner of the study from Indonesian side. Due to their large size and presence across Indonesia there is great potential for implementing learnings from the study on a larger scale on vessels owned by the Indonesian government, and to share the learnings with other Indonesian ship owners. In order for the study to be relevant for the Indonesian authorities, these items are mandatory parts of the project: • an overview of the possible technical energy efficiency solutions for the specific ferry types in question • an illustrative business case showing the expected costs for implementing these EE-improvements and the excepted return of investment after having made the EE-improvements • calculations on the GHG-emissions before and after the EE-improvements • a timeline for implementing the EE-improvements and for calculating on the effects of the implementation The primary target group of the study are the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation and the State-Owned Enterprise ASDP represented by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Danish Maritime Authority as part of the Strategic Sector Cooperation on Maritime Affairs.
